- Description:
- ● A close nipple fitting is a short piece of pipe with male threads on either side.
- ● Its length is the shortest that a pipe nipple can be made.
- ● It has no unthreaded section and connects two female threads very close together.
- Used for:
- ● A close nipple, is used to connect two female threaded fittings, pipes or components very 'close' together.
- Advantage:
- ● The advantage of a close nipple over a hex nipple is that they connect two female threaded components very close together in a closed connection.
- ● This means that there is very little space between the threaded parts being connected.
- ● This makes these nipple fittings better suited to situations where space is limited and a very close connection is required.
- To Install:
- ● Thread the one of the male threads into a female thread of the same size.
- ● Start by threading the nipple into a fitting by hand, using Teflon tape as required.
- ● Then thread it into the second fitting and tighten by hand or by wrench if required.
- Sizing:
- ● A close nipple fitting is sized according to the size of the thread it will connect to.
- ● For Example: a 1/2" close nipple will thread into a 1/2" female pipe thread.
- Also Called:
- ● Threaded Nipple Fitting.
- ● Close Pipe Nipple Fitting.
- More Options:
- ● Another option is a Hex Nipple which is also a threaded nipple fittng but it has a hexagon nut shaped head between the threaded ends.
- ● Another option are Pipe Nipples which have a section of unthreaded pipe between the threaded ends.

- Material of Construction:
- ● These threaded nipples are constructed out of Stainless Steel 304 & 316.
More Information:
A close nipple is a threaded pipe fitting used in fluid handling and in plumbing systems to connect two female threaded components together. This enables two female threaded fittings to be connected to very close together in a “closed” connection. A close nipple fitting is a short piece of pipe with male threads on either end. It differs from a pipe nipple in that the whole nipple is threaded, with no unthreaded area, therefore it is also referred to as a running nipple. This feature of being a short piece of pipe that is all threaded makes it possible to connect fittings very close together, almost touching, with very little of the threaded nipple exposed. The external threads of this plumbing nipple will thread into a corresponding female pipe thread of the same size. These NPT pipe fittings have tapered National Pipe Threads (NPT threads), which form a secure and leak-proof connection when properly installed. This makes close nipple fittings ideal for a wide range of industrial applications, including in food & beverage, manufacture, agriculture, construction, irrigation, fuel & oil, as well as in plumbing, wherever two female threaded components need to be connected in close proximity. Manufactured out of stainless steel 304 and 316 which makes them durable, corrosion resistance and rust resistant.
