- Description:
- ● A cap fitting is a threaded pipe cap with female threads on one end and a sealed off cap on the other end.
- ● It is a closed off cap that allows no flow and completely seals and closes off a male thread.
- Used for:
- ● A threaded cap, also called a end cap, is used to close off and seal the end of a pipe or male threaded fitting.
- ● Threaded pipe caps are commonly used to close off male threaded ends to prevent contaminants from entering.
- ● They are used to create a tight seal that prevents leakage and stops the flow.
- ● Used for sealing off male NPT threaded ends.
- Advantage:
- ● The advantage of a round threaded cap is it is compact and saves space and follows the lines of the male threads it caps.
- ● The round head has a ridge that provides increased leverage for gripping during installation allowing the plug fitting to be securely tightened with a wrench.
- ● Prevents dirt and contimenents from getting in threaded openings and prevents leaks from getting out.
- To Install:
- ● Thread the female pipe threads onto a male thread of the same size.
- ● The cap head a can be gripped by a wrench, for easier loosening and tightening.
- Sizing:
- ● A pipe cap is sized according to the size of the thread it will seal.
- ● For Example: a 1/2" pipe cap fitting will thread into a 1/2" male thread.
- Also Called:
- ● NPT Caps.
- ● Metal Pipe Caps.
- ● End Caps for Pipe.
- ● Threaded pipe end cap.
- More Options:
- ● Another option is a Hex Plug which is a pipe plug with male threads used for closing female threaded openings.
- ● Other options include Square Head Plugs which have male threads for sealing female threaded openings.

More Information:
A threaded cap is a pipe fitting used in industrial and in plumbing systems to seal and close off pipes and the male threaded openings in components. They are most commonly used to seal off the ends of pipes. They are widely used in plumbing where they can be used to form a permanent termination point in a pipe or male threaded component, or they can be used to temporarily cut off the supply. They screw over male threaded components to protect the threads, to prevent contamination, or to stop the flow of liquid or gas. A Cap fitting is shaped like a cylinder with internal threads on one end, and a flat sealed cap on the other end. They are round in shape mirroring the shape of the male threads they screw onto. The round exterior surface of the cap does have a ridge that provides a better grip for a wrench to tighten or loosen the threaded end cap. The internal female threads of this stainless steel pipe cap will thread onto male threads of the same size. To install the pipe thread cap simply screw it onto a female thread of the same size diameter and then fasten with a wrench. These NPT caps for plumbing are sometimes called a FIP Cap (Female Iron Pipe Cap). They have NPT threads, (National Pipe Threads) which are tapered threads that form a secure water-proof connection when properly installed. This makes stainless steel caps ideal for a wide range of industrial applications including in plumbing, HVAC, and agricultural applications, wherever a water proof seal is required to prevent leaks and contamination. These NPT threaded caps for pipes are manufactured out of stainless steel 304 & 316, making them durable, corrosion resistant as well as rust resistant.
