 A 3” pipe nipple is a short section of 3” pipe used in gas handling, fluid transfer and in plumbing systems to connect two 3” female threaded components or to extend 3” pipe run. Sometimes called nipple tubes or barrel nipples, they are also used to add a section of 3 inch pipe to a fitting or component. It differs from a close nipple in that it has a section of unthreaded pipe between the threads. This characteristic feature of a specific length of unthreaded pipe between the threads enables nipple pipe to come in a selection of different lengths. This makes them ideal to situations that may involve adding a particular length of 3” pipe to an application. Another benefit of this feature a specific pipe length is that this threaded nipple can be connect fittings or components at a specific distance apart. The 3” male threads of this plumbing pipe nipple will thread into female threads of the same size. This NPT nipple for plumbing has National Pipe Threads often referred to as NPT threads, which are tapered and form a secure water-proof connection when properly installed.
