A square head plug is a threaded pipe plug used in gas and fluid handling as well as  in plumbing to seal and close off pipe ends and unused female threaded openings. It differs from a hex head plug in that it has a more compact square shaped head. This characteristic feature of a compact square shaped head provides a smaller surface for gripping with a socket wrench which makes it easy to install and uninstall in tight spaces. This makes them ideal for situations where space is a concern where it is not possible to get a wrench close to the plug. Since they have a surface for a square socket wrench to grip they are also well suited situations that may require installing and removal as well as situations where the threaded plug fitting needs to be securely tightened during installation. The external male threads of these stainless steel plugs will thread into female threads of the same size. Threaded plugs are often used in plumbing and have NPT threads (National Pipe Threads), which are tapered threads and form a secure water-proof connection when properly installed. This makes stainless steel square head plugs ideal for a wide range of industrial applications including in plumbing, HVAC, and pneumatic applications, wherever a water proof seal is required to prevent contamination and leaks. These threaded plugs are manufactured out of stainless steel 304 making them not only durable but also corrosion and rust resistant.
