A Street Elbow is a threaded elbow fitting used in plumbing and piping systems to connect a male threaded pipe and a female threaded component together at a 90 degree angle. It differs from a regular elbow in the gender of its threads. A regular elbow has female threads on both ends, while a street elbow has a female thread on one end and a male thread on the other. This feature of having the opposite gender threads on either end allows them to connect pipes or male threaded fittings to a female threaded component without the need of a pipe nipple. This saves space and makes them ideal to situations that are tight and where space constraints exist. Another benefit of this mixed thread is they add a 90 degree bend to a pipe or fitting while keeping the gender of the thread the same. For example putting a street elbow on a regular male threaded pipe, puts a right angle at the end of that pipe and keeps the thread male. The external male threads of this 90 elbow will thread into female threads, and the internal female threads will thread onto male threads of the same size.
