- Description:
- ● A threaded pipe coupling is a short piece of pipe with female threads on either side.
- ● It is a short legnth of pipe with internal threads on both ends.
- ● It has a machined exterior and connects two pipes or male threaded fittings together.
- Used for:
- ● A threaded coupling, also called a merchant pipe coupling, is used to connect two male threaded pipes, fittings or components together.
- Advantage:
- ● The advantage of a merchant pipe coupling over a cast coupling is that they are machined and have a smaller diameter.
- ● This means that these coupling fittings better suited to situations where space is limited and a bulky protruding cast iron or malleable iron coupler would not fit.
- To Install:
- ● Thread the one of the female threads onto a male thread of the same size.
- ● Start by threading the coupling onto a pipe or fitting by hand, using Teflon tape as required.
- ● Then thread it into the second pipe or fitting and tighten by hand or by wrench if required.
- Sizing:
- ● A coupling fitting is sized according to the size of the thread it will connect to.
- ● For Example: a 1/2" coupling will thread onto a 1/2" male pipe thread.
- Also Called:
- ● Coupling Fitting.
- ● Merchant Coupler.
- ● Plumbing Coupling.
- More Options:
- ● Another option are Pipe Unions which are also a threaded pipeline couplings, except they have a tightening nut in the middle.
- ● Another option is a Bell Reducer Coupling which also join pipes and fittings while increasing or reducing the thread size.

- Material of Construction:
- ● These threaded couplers are constructed out of Stainless Steel 304 & 316.
More Information:
A threaded pipe coupling is a pipe fitting used in plumbing systems and in fluid handling systems to connect two pipes or male threaded fittings together. A pipe coupling fitting is a short piece of pipe with female threads on either end. It differs from other cast couplings in that it is machined to a smooth uniform finish, it is also referred to as a merchant coupler. Although the diameter is smaller it is made from strong pipe which makes it suitable for connecting threaded pipes in long, straight runs enabling for the extension of a pipe line. This feature of being a short piece of pipe that is internally threaded enables two pipes to be connected in a straight line. The internal threads of this pipe coupler will thread into corresponding male pipe threads of the same size. These NPT coupling fittings have tapered NPT threads (National Pipe Threads), which form a secure and water-proof connection when installed correctly. This makes SS coupling fittings ideal for a wide range of industrial applications, including agriculture and plumbing, wherever a threaded pipe run needs to be extended or where two male threaded components need to be connected. These Pipe Couplers are manufactured out of stainless steel 304 and 316, making them durable, rust resistant and corrosion resistance.
